Rakhshan Bani-Etemad joins Vesoul festival jury

Iranian filmmaker Rakhshan Bani-Etemad has joined the jury of the 23rd edition of the Vesoul International Film Festival of Asian Cinema in France.

The other members of the jury panel are Georgian director Rusudan Chkonia, Mongolian director Byambasuren Davaa and Sri Lankan film critic and director Vimukthi Jayasundara.

Born in 1954, Bani-Etemad is a director, script writer and producer, holding an academic degree in Filmmaking and Dramatic Arts from Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Tehran.

She began her career as a script supervisor for television and then directed several short documentaries.

Bani-Etemad made her directional debut with ‘Out of Range’ in 1987.

She has directed a number of movies, including ‘Foreign Currency’, ‘Narges’, ‘Blue Scarf’, ‘The Lady of Ordibehesht’, ‘Under the City's Skin’, ‘Gilaneh’ and ‘Tales’.

In 1992, Bani-Etemad won a Crystal Simorgh of Best Director from the 10th edition of the Fajr International Film Festival for ‘Narges’.

She has brought home countless prestigious awards from domestic and international film festivals, including a Bronze Leopard from the 1995 Locarno Film Festival for ‘Blue Scarf’.

Her spouse Jahangir Kosari is a film producer and journalist. Meanwhile, her daughter Baran Kosari is an actress.
